Daniel (“Don”) Shacknai is Vice President, Emerging Markets for Northwell’s   Behavioral Health Service Line. Before joining Northwell Health, he served as Chief Operating Officer for the Children’s Aid Society.

Don held numerous roles in New York City government prior to his non-profit service.  Most recently, he served as First Deputy Commissioner at NYC’s Housing Preservation and Development agency.  He previously served as First Deputy Commissioner and General Counsel at the FDNY.  He began his City career at the Administration for Children’s Services as Associate and later Deputy General Counsel.  

Don was a litigator at Simpson Thacher prior to his City service. He clerked for the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals after graduating magna cum laude from Cornell Law School. Prior to attending law school, Don was a caseworker and financial advocate for the Victim’s Services Agency (now Safe Horizon) and GMHC.  He has a BA from Bucknell University in English Literature.
