Davon Russell

Davon Russell has spent years serving families and communities across New York City, focusing his efforts on increasing equity and opportunity for communities of color.

Davon was named president of WHEDco (the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation) in 2017, an organization he first joined two decades earlier as a part-time after-school teacher. Under Davon’s leadership, WHEDco’s programs, which serve children of all ages from infants to teens, have helped tens of thousands of youth build skills, access resources, develop creative potential and grow into leaders.

Davon is co-founder and board chair of the South Bronx Early College Academy Charter School, and serves on the boards of Bronx Lacrosse and DreamYard. He is also a captain in the founding coalition of the Bronx Community Relief Effort, and a member of the racial justice and equity task force for the Weill Cornell Department of Medicine. Previously, he served on the board of Grace Church School and was appointed to the New York City Department of Education’s community education council.

He earned a B.A. in humanities and an M.A. in journalism and theater at the University of Oregon.
